A must read for people around the world.

Shannon's book reads exactly like she is sitting down with you over a large pot of coffee telling you her story. It's captivating from start to finish and illuminates the realities of Afghanistan that many of us just don't hear about in the Western world. Mountain to Mountain is an important read for humanity and leaves you inspired to go follow you own wild hairs, because the world and our children need more passionate people like Shannon.

This book answers all my questions, where to go, what activities are within the spot, prices, where to eat and what to do nearby. The book is well written and organized. I was provided a copy of the book by the author but that in no way alters my opinion on the book.

Terrfic resource for grandparents!

What a wonderful resource for grandparents. This book is your personal tour planner. The author gives you in depth information about each attraction, costs, what to expect, and even where to eat. I think that even those without children would enjoy many of the featured day trips, such as the swim with the Manatees. Great trips out of the "Bubble" and away from the Mouse!

Took them horseback riding in Ocala and to the Giraffee Ranch in Dade city. Found out about both in the book.

The Devil Wears Clogs by Jennifer Burge (5 out of 5) - Generation G Books

Jennifer grew up near Cleveland, Ohio, and always(like many of us!) had the dream of living and working in Europe. Always be careful what you wish for? Jennifer gets her chance when she relocates to the Heidelburg, Germany. Wait..Heidelburg, Germany???? It certainly isn't London, Austria, or Paris. It's...Germany! Jennifer takes the chance and relocates. Things are not exactly wine and roses. I learned a lot about what the business world overseas would expect and surprise you with, if I were ever able to journey that way. The Germans have a stiff upper lip and some rather unique regulations that will make you shake your head. I did shake my head a few times. I also laughed quite a few times. Jennifer's book does kind of give you a crash course in what to expect if you're not at all prepared for what you may get when you get there- she wasn't, and she makes no secret of that. Her experiences in Holland give her a reason to continue living abroad, and again, you learn a lot from what she went through when she landed and while she was righting herself. Here's the thing: Jennifer tells you the truth, but where there are water spouts, there are also rainbows. You find many a positive message here. There are the atypical professional double edged swords- usually, those buried in your back by competitive colleagues. I had a lot of fun reading this book. I love a good business book once in a while, and I felt like Jennifer managed to merge the two genres with ease, with fun, with wisdom, and with a lot of heart.

About the Author
Jennifer Burge grew up on the Lake Erie shore near Cleveland, Ohio. Graduating from the Ohio State University in 1994, she long dreamed of living and working in Europe. Her wish came true as her career in IT project management moved her to Germany in 2001 and then to the Netherlands in 2002. In 2007, Jennifer relocated to Singapore where she worked as an IT contractor. She traveled extensively throughout Asia and began writing destination pieces for The Guide magazine. Realizing that others who sought to work overseas could benefit from her first-hand experience and perhaps avoid painful lessons, Jennifer began writing her memoir, The Devil Wears Clogs, in 2009. Her next move took her to Australia in 2011 where she returned to consulting before taking the leap to full-time writing in 2012. In 2013 and she became a full member of the Australian Authors' Society and her first memoir was published in late 2014. The sequel, Singapore Salvation, was released in December 2015. Her Australian story is coming up next! Jennifer lives in north Brisbane and works full-time writing and speaking on the importance of cultural understanding in a global society. Excellent Memoir About ExPat Life as a Businesswoman

Very well-written memoir by a keenly intelligent professional. Her descriptions of the issues she faced as an American working in first Germany and then the Netherlands were fascinating and rang true. Especially considering that her training was in an entirely different field, her narrative skills were impressive and her ability to tell a story in an appealing and interesting manner was first-rate. I found her book interesting and absorbing; I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.

Very readable

A very readable book about an enthusiastic American girl bumping around Europe, changing jobs and looking for love.
Every American going to work in another country should read it.
Judging by the kind of work does, the author must be exceedingly bright, but she portrays herself as the archetypal American naïve – expecting the whole world to function like it does back home, and being amazed when it doesn’t. However, she does at least have the courage to say grudgingly of herself: ‘you can take the girl out of Ohio but you can never take Ohio out of the girl’.
I felt I wanted to mother her as she struggled through one situation after another. It was as if it was she who was wearing clogs, rather than her Dutch bosses, as she clumped around, always sticking out from the crowd – dressed in the wrong clothes – saying the wrong thing – not picking up the vibes( not even at home with her family). But she paints a very good picture of a peppy, vibrant, albeit insouciant girl who likes to drink a lot, who is doing her best to make her way in the world – and many can identify with that.
She is no Jan Morris, Tim Parks or Bill Bryson, so you get little insight into the character of the people she is living with, apart from the most obvious things, but the result is an entertaining read.
Her story is a cautionary tale, and at the same time an inspirational one, as even if at first she bridles at the environment she finds herself in, or refuses to learn the language, in the end she knuckles down and makes the effort. She’s clearly a gutsy girl who refuses to give up, and toils on.
The writing is exemplary. She writes with great verve and fluidity, and with good characterisation. She also never lingers too long on a situation. Above all the book is refreshingly honest, and the author doesn’t spare herself – even when she’s railing against the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. I found I quickly identified with her, and it wasn’t long before I was cheering for her to succeed.

Pure fun!

I really wasn't expecting to like this book. I'm a cozy mystery/fantasy/sci-fi reader. In the interest of full disclosure, the author is the friend of a friend. I committed to go to the book signing and wanted to do my due dilligence and read the book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so that when the book ended, I nearly threw my kindle across the couch. I want MORE and I want it NOW! According to the author, the next one comes out at the end of this year. I suspect I will have the same reaction to the ending since she's already talking book 3.
I've never been particularly interested in biographies or business or someone else's travels abroad. This book is such an easy read that I was almost instantyly converted to a fan girl. She gives just the right amount of description - enough to set the scene but not so much that you drown in words. I found myself rather engaged by tone and giggled at things I've caught myself doing and wonded how she didn't murder her coworkers.

Less campground information

In the new 2015 RV travel guide, which used to be called a campground directory, it does not have a description of the campground or directions to it unless the campground has paid for an add. I find this disappointing as it makes it much less useful. Maybe that is why it is no longer called a campground directory!

This is no longer a true campground directory!

I am so disappointed in this guide! We're planning a trip to the southwest for several months, and I bought this to replace my 2012 Woodall's campground directory so I would have the most up-to-date campground information as we travel. As one reviewer stated, it only gives directions and complete campground information for those Good Sam parks that have paid to advertise, and some parks that I know exist and have stayed at recently are not even listed. I have relied on the Woodall's directory for years and was thinking this would be even better now that they joined with Good Sam. But it is bigger and bulkier than the Woodall's directory and contains far less campground information. Seems to be focused more on travel savings than useful campground information. Not quite sure what they were thinking when they did this...VERY disappointed.

I was a little disappointed after receiving this guide. This was a first time purchase and I expected it to have a little more information in it rather than just a list of campgrounds. It is basically just a list of the campgrounds and I think that most of that information is available via their smart phone app. I won't purchase the phone book sized book again. I will just use the app.

Excellent guide for travelers

This is a great travel guide for Provence in France. I am getting married and my husband and I have been looking for the perfect honeymoon destination. And we've found it thanks to this book.

It's a great resource for all the places to see in Provence as it highlights all the best places to go. I love how the author wove history, geography and detail into the narratives of the different attractions, restaurants and historical places. Each page is filled with excellent descriptions that bring the cities, cathedrals and avenues to life in your imagination. It's like getting advice from an excited friend who has visited and obviously loves the place. The enthusiasm in the descriptions is infectious.

I also appreciated that the guide has addresses and phone numbers listed. No Internet searching or trying to find them in the small print of a typical guide book that is loaded with advertisements.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in traveling. I noticed there are several of these for other cities and I definitely will check them out as well.

Learn what Provence has to offer. Good book for basic solid information.

Exactly what I needed to know... I took this book on a weekend holiday trip wondering if Provence would be of interest to visit. The 3 Day Guide To Provence gave me exactly what I needed to know to make an informed decision. Lots of information here without a lot of real touristy stuff thrown in. If you want to visit Provence this book offers to major attractions and what you should plan on visiting. They also have a book on Berlin so it is now on my list of books to get before long.

Good guide to have when travelling Provence, France.

Whenever I travel or visit other places, one of the most important thing that I should check on is where can I get the nicest food, I like trying dishes that are new to me. I love that the author included restaurants where you can dine as well as what cuisine and specialties they offer aside from the places you can visit and hotels to stay. The food is really interesting.

This book is wonderful, it made me want to visit France. Provence, I think is undeniably a beautiful place. I will definitely visit it when I have the chance. The Lavender Fields could be the best place to visit though it 's seasonal, it might really feel good seeing all of those lavenders and its fresh colors. The photos are beautiful too and very inviting.

Nice and helpful book, definitely something to have when you have plans to travel to France.I would recommend this book to people who love to travel and explore different cultures. A good read for everyone.

AMAZING MAP

This map is absolutely wonderful, I could follow it easily even though I've never been to San Miguel de Allende, and as it has a plastic coating it is easy to mark on and not so easy to tear. Full marks to Rhonda Lerner who created it, it's definite keeper!!!

I would recommend this map to anyone who lives in or visits San Miguel. It is clear, easy to read, and I like that sites are listed under categories and their locations displayed on the map so that you can see what restaurants, for example, are closest to where you are.

Just What I was Looking for

I'm thinking of relocating to SMA and wanted a large map with all the districts clearly labeled. This was just the ticket. It also includes a detail of the Centro District with restaurants, shops, etc. The only problem, of course, is that the map will go out of date. But for me, it was perfect.

Caution, this is an abridgement.

I bought this version when I could not find my old copy. On trying to find a favorite passage (Darwin's revulsion at a parasitic wasp in Brazil and the inconsistency of such cruelty with any providential design of nature by a good God), I noticed that it was not there. I do not know what else is missing. I find it infuriating that this was not adequately noted on the cover of the book. I always prefer books as the author wrote them, especially when the author is Darwin. This is a lively, beautiful and haunting work that I first read when I was thirteen and have read twice since. Readers deserve the whole thing.

Charles Darwin as Indiana Jones

We all know Charles Darwin as a scholarly bearded old English gentleman, and like Leonardo da Vinci, Darwin has this image defining him for all future generations. Even though most everyone knows Darwin spent five years traveling the oceans on the HMS Beagle, the image of a young dynamic Darwin never takes over. Reading this book will change this.

Darwin sailed on the Beagle, a small three-mast sailing ship, and circumnavigated the globe. Over five years, he visited numerous islands in the Atlantic and Pacific and extensively surveyed the east and west coasts of South America. He hiked up and down mountains, traveled on horseback across the arid Argentinean plains, crossed the lonely Peruvian desert, and trekked the grandiose Chilean Cordilleras. He thought nothing of packing a train of mules for a two-month overland journey across the Andes going from Chile to Argentina and back again. On all his land expeditions he hired local guides, from Gauchos in Argentina to South Pacific islanders in Tahiti. Darwin's accounts of his expeditions are not only interesting adventures, they are also good portraits of the people he met. These include Latin American governors and generals, Argentinean ranchers, very primitive natives on Tierra del Fuego, and so on.

The journal begins with an account of Cape de Verd islands, then most of the book is spent on Brazil, Argentina, and Chile, and we have to wait until Chapter 17 before we get to what all Darwin fans really want to read, namely the account of his visit to the Galapagos. Though short, the account does not disappoint. We read of Darwin's finches, of two allied species of lizards, and of the giant turtles. Darwin also presents his great insight: that geographical isolation contributes to speciation. He came by this insight when it was pointed out to him that nearly identical species were seldom found on the same island. Another insight was that the fauna and flora an island depends more on that of the nearby mainland than on latitude. For example the plants of the Galapagos Islands were similar to those of the American west coast, while those of Cape de Verd, at the same latitude but in the Atlantic, resembled plants found in Africa. Darwin then continues with accounts of Tahiti, New Zealand and Australia, where we read how he thought coral reef islands were formed.

In the last chapter Darwin tells us of his visit to St-Helena and he does in fact mention its most famous resident, Napoleon Bonaparte. Though the French Emperor had already died, his remains had not yet been moved to Les Invalides in Paris. Darwin writes of the grave only in passing and is explicitly careful not too make too much of it. Apparently visitors in those days had a habit of overdoing their descriptions of Napoleon's rather simple headstone.

Travel notes like these and the descriptions of the people he met, were for me the most charming aspect of the book. The portraits Darwin paints are invariably sympathetic to human nature. Certainly Darwin was a man of his times and valued civilization very highly, but he was no racist and believed that all men could find happiness and enlightenment, and that all men had a right to be free. He despised slavery, and wrote eloquent passages attacking the prevalent institution. From this journal, we come to know a dynamic, adventurous young man, and a thoughtful liberal one who would only later shake our view of our place in the world.

Penguin Version is abridged, with no warning on the cover

The 1 star is for Penguin, because the cover does not warn you that the content has been sharply abridged. Darwin's thinking and writing are wonderful -- but grossly and unfairly cut to ribbons.
