My high school teacher does it again, well researched and good as stories garnered from men I grew up knowing...Ray Hunt (Ghani) Oshlih, and John Holiday...

My only critique would be why he has no mention of the great medicine men and principal headline and figures that made up the settling and stories behind the history of the territory he writes about.

Where is Hashkenaneii, Spane Shank, Hataliih Hozhonih, Kayellih, Hasteen Altsis'eh', Ashii'ih' A'dil'loh'ih'...

He borrows and returns to repeating stories from Oshlhi and John Holiday, of which only one is a medicine man and the other a hand trembled diagnostic practitioner.

Lonely Planet, look out. This book goes deeper than any city guide I've owned (and I own far too many) taking you to places you never knew you wanted to go to. Go beyond the monuments and museums (though they're there too) and really get to know DC it's charm, history and more.

She was entranced by the process of starting in one destination and ending in another. Yet, she learned that adventures can be had whether walking across the street, enjoying a day trip around her home State of Connecticut, or taking a road trip to the west. A Woman's Journey that Steinbeck Would be Proud of

While the thread of her story is about a solo trip to the national parks and what she learns about herself and life along the way, Mann also weaves in other stories from an African safari and a genealogy search in England. I found myself reminiscing about some of the same sites I visited 35 years ago as a young, college-aged woman. You might think Mann is a young woman, too. She is -- in spirit. I loved this book!

It had just the right blend of facts, humor and personal revelations that anyone can relate to. I laughed out loud at Jan singing to the bears, talking about the Horse in the Diamond Belle Salon and searching aimlessly for the rock climbers in Yosemite. I could relate to the chapters, Once a Mommy and Packing is the Pitts, and just when I thought the wealth of information about traveling the West was over, Jan gave us her A-Z facts. How I Won the West is a Winner!

From the moment I opened the cover of this book it grabbed me. As I read "Keep It Shut" I journaled what I was feeling along the way. I didn't want to forget the impact my first reading of this book had on me.

I liked the way Karen shared her experiences so openly. It brought it real. Our words will cost us one way or another. On page 15 Karen said that "We should not have both righteous and evil words coming from our tongues." That stopped me in my tracks as I took in just what that meant. To me it said that I am either of the world or I am of God. It's my choice daily. I not only got those words........ but I've caught them.

So much of what Karen has written I've done. Like using my silence as a weapon that she mentions on page 25. I can almost visualize the throwing of "flesh balls" that she mentions and refers to scripture that we are not "walking by the Spirit" but "gratifying the desires of the flesh" Galations 5:16.

This is a relatable book. It will not be a book that I will sit on a shelf and forget about. I don't want to forget about it. I want to live it out as a testimony of God in me. It has given me a fresh look on dusty thoughts and encouraged me to get back to what God has called me to do.

Karen has also given us some verses, self-assessment tools, and other relevant information from her book that will help us know what to say, how to say it, and when to say nothing at all.

Closing the last page I can honestly say that it did change my life and my perspective on my choice of words. I got it. I will be leading the Ladies Bible studies a lot differently than I have been doing for these past ten years or so. It changed my heart. Now it's time to pass it on.

Mouth get you into trouble?

This book was soooo good to read. As a talker, I have gotten into more trouble with my mouth than I would prefer. Sigh. Karen's insights and godly wisdom was so life-giving and practical. I think what I liked best is that she, being a talker herself, didn't come at me in judgement but instead came alongside me and said, "Girl, I know. I so know." If you struggle with what you say and how you say it sometimes, pick up this book. Even if you don't, it will still help you because you never know when your "inner talker" will surface :)
