Great Book!

For some areas, books that cover every detail of the area are quite helpful. For RMNP, I didn't want that. I wanted maps and basic descriptions. I wanted a lighter book that is easy to carry. And most of all, I wanted a book that would help me see the park at its best. This book did so - describing wildlife, flora, breaking the park up into manageable sections, outlining the highlights. I found it very helpful, and recommend. Note - the book does NOT cover areas around the park - so if you are looking for info on Estrs Park or Grande Lake, it is not in this book.

Really like the layout of this book as it's divided up into four sections of the park with color coded maps showing the various points of interest in each one. Makes it easy to decide what all one can do in a given time based on the distances between places. Very well written.

Quality with a capital Q.

This is a quality product, highlighting stunning photography of WDW. These pictures of places Disney fans are familiar with yet manage to stand out from all previous efforts in part because of framing and angles, but also capture heartfelt feelings with stunning representations of the color palate that presents itself there. Your coffee table will make a best dressed list with this addition. Add to that ultra high quality packaging as evidenced by my experience as UPS left my package exposed to a heavy rainstorm that soaked the shipping box through, enough to split the tape and leave a large gap into the box. Due to care that included shrink wrap around the internal box which cradled the book itself shrink wrapped also. The result was a perfect survival story. This extra care is rare and really appreciated. I'll be adding additional copies to my Christmas shopping list.

This is so successful of an undertaking, I can see why plans for The Best of WDW Vol 2. is already on peoples wish list for next year. This book makes a great gift for your own table, those going on honeymoon, a family vacation to Walt Disney World or grandparents that once took you to Disney and now sharing memories with your own kids. I am sure it was a tough task choosing what photos to include. I can't wait for next volume. Until then, I subscribe to WDW magazine to get my monthly fix of inside Disney articles and more photos! Highly recommend book for yourself and gifts. What a great way to announce an upcoming Disney trip.

Details- Book is 10" x 12" x 3/8" with over 60 pages of double sided,full color, thick paper. Perfect for page turning even in children's hands. The font size is easy to read as a senior, and understandable enough narratives for a child to enjoy reading on their own. Just beware, you may never see your book again once the kids get it!
I have been following this book since its inception on Kickstarter, and the creator went beyond with shipping Each book got the "white glove" treatment as it was packed. Mine arrived in a padded envelope,in its own shrunk wrapped box. The photos I have included are not vibrant like seeing and touching the real thing. The peek inside is a page with a quote, most pages have simple paragraph narrative.
I look forward to many future volumes. This book embodies this quote fully-

Great book, great value, great present.

This is a beautiful book, and exactly as advertised. If your thoughts turn to fun at Walt Disneyworld on a regular basis, this book will both help to scratch the itch and make you want to start planning your next trip. Of course, we've hardly seen it since my 5 year old daughter got her hands on it... she has her nose in it at every opportunity, and growls at us like a feral coyote if we get too close to it. Highly recommended.

Excellent map, prompt delivery

We are taking a car trip around the Balkans next year and wanted a hard copy map for planning purposes. This map appears to be a good compromise in terms of scale and manageability and (hopefully) presents a comprehensive view of the road networks.

When first ordered I couldn't understand the extended scheduled delivery date of one and a half to two weeks. When it arrived (in one week) I realized that it had been posted from Europe (Czech Republic or Croatia I think). Given the circumstances I was pleased with the delivery.

NT Wright is an author that many are excited about and many are frustrated by. There is good reason for both. NT Wright is a serious scholar and he has helped reinvigorate serious scholarship about the New Testament that is focused on orthodox Christianity.

The main theological frustration, especially for a particular group of Reformed, is that he has focused on Paul and interpreted Paul as not being primarily focused on Jesus' Penal Substitution. He has not ignored Penal Substitution, or said it is not a real part of Christianity, but he has said the focus of Paul is not on Jesus' penal substitution, but on Jesus as King and restorer.

That major focus on Wright's work is front and center in Simply Good News. Wright does fairly well writing either to an academic audience (as his 1700 pages opus on Paul) or a popular audience. Simply Good News (like Simply Jesus, Simply Christian and Surprised by Hope) is popularly focused and has few footnotes or academic references. And it is one of Wright's shortest books.

NT Wright is in one way imminently readable. He tells stories and builds a case that can be followed. But in another ways Wright is almost always frustrating because he usually seems to complicate even small matters. Nothing by Wright is unrelated to the whole story because the nature of Wright's project pulls together parts of the Christian story which some minimize or over simplify.

Wright cannot talk about the Good News without talking about Jesus and his project (obviously) or the broader concept of covenant (which Jesus is coming to fulfil), or the work of the church (doing our part in reconciling the world to Christ), or the end times (which should drive our understanding of what our reconciliation should be focused on), or the history of Israel (to which Jesus came as Messiah) or a whole host of other issues that are interrelated and connected. Anyone that has read Wright before always feels the repetition that is necessarily a part of Wright's method of presenting the story.

NT Wright wrote the introduction to Scot McKnight's 2011 The King Jesus Gospel. In many ways Simply Good News is Wright's version of McKnight's earlier book. I read Simply Good News looking for how it is different from King Jesus Gospel. I think the main difference is that King Jesus Gospel was written theologically (primarily to clergy) to help change people's theology of the gospel from one focused on sin to one focused on kingdom. McKnight's general point is the main point of Simply Good News as well, but Wright has more of a pastoral focus and tone and is more oriented toward lay people.

The end of the book looks practically at the Lord's Prayer to illustrate how moving from a focus on individual sin to a corporate submission to Christ's kingship changes our understanding of Christianity. Wright suggests that individual sin focus leads us to do the Lord's Prayer backwards, help me, forgive me my sins, give me what I need and because you have done those things you are great. But instead the Lord's Prayer has a particular order that Wright thinks better illustrates the point of the Gospel, Lord you are Hallowed, we ask that your kingdom come now on earth as it is in heaven so that all things may be reconciled to you and submit to you, and so that your will as King be done both on earth as it is in heaven. And as King, give us our needs, forgive us our sin and help us to forgive (and act rightly toward) those around us. And keep us from temptations and evil that we cannot endure.

While I think Simply Good News is probably going to be my suggestion for the best entry point for Wright, none of Wright's books are perfect. He has a tendency to over state his case a bit and while that is less here than most books, it is still here. I think while his point is to complicate the story and make it richer, more meaningful and more whole, there are times when he needs more summary to make sure everyone is following along.

There is also one point where he talks about myth as a false story, which while I know he is writing to a popular audience, I wish he would not have done. Because Wright has often done a good job at using the richer understanding of myth as origin story (not false story) as he did in this video. (video link was removed by Amazon)

Overall if you are new to NT Wright, this is a great place to start. If you are familiar with NT Wright and have read Scot McKnight's King Jesus Gospel, you will not find much new material here, but this is a good summary of why Wright's project is important, not only for Pauline studies or New Testament studies but for the basic theology and practice of the church.

An outstanding call to rethink how we frame the good news

Simply Good News opens with a series of illustrations that contrast the gospel as news with the gospel as advice. Wright wants readers to embrace the gospel as news, good news. The modern gospel, Wright suggests, amounts to mere advice - "say a prayer and you'll be saved. You won't go to hell; you'll go to heaven. Here's how to do it"--a truncated (and ultimately misshapen) view of the real gospel. Wright pushes against the all too common practice of abstracting a collection of timeless truths (or advice) about salvation from Scripture and calling it "the gospel." The real gospel, Wright contends, comes as news about Jesus rooted in a history complete with a backstory and heralded as an event with important personal entailments and social implications--some immediate and others forthcoming.

Implicit in his distinction between news and advice, Wright wants Christians to rethink how they see (and explain) the gospel. For Wright, reducing the gospel to advice (such as "five steps to salvation") hardly does justice to the robust nature of the news about Jesus's life, death, resurrection and exaltation and boarders on misrepresenting the biblical emphasis. "For something to qualify as news," Wright says, "there has to be (1) an announcement of an event that has happened; (2) a larger context, a backstory, within which this makes sense; (3) a sudden unveiling of the new future that lies ahead; and (4) a transformation of the present moment, sitting between the event that has happened and the future event that therefore will happen." Echoing 1 Corinthians 15, Wright sums up the major touchstones of the gospel quite nicely: "The announcement of what has happened - Jesus's death and resurrection as the fulfillment of the ancient biblical promises and divine purposes - is matched by the assurance of what will happen in the future, when God is `all in all,' transforming the whole of creation and raising his people into new, transformed bodily life . . ." and "[b]ecause Jesus died and was raised, those who belong to him have died and been raised, and they must live accordingly. Because God is going to remake the whole world and raise his people from the dead, they must live in the present in accordance with that ultimate promised destiny." The rest of the book powerfully elaborates on the implications of embracing the gospel as good news in both proclamation and practice.

I found Wright's book both timely and refreshing. He offers an apt word to those evangelicals who conflate the gospel message into barely comprehensible sound bytes divorced from a much larger biblical and historical context. Following a similar trajectory to two other outstanding books with parallel concerns, Darrell Bock's Recovering the Real Lost Gospel and Scot McKnight's The King Jesus Gospel, Wright's Simply Good News is simply excellent. Highly recommended!

N. T. Wright is not just this generation's C. S. Lewis; he is this generation's Martin Luther. This book is Wright's 95 Theses being nailed to the door of the 21st century Church. It leads us in a rediscovery of the gospel. It should be read, considered, and debated in the spirit of "Semper Reformanda"--the Church's need to be always reformed and reforming according to the Word of God. If the gospel presented here seems less simple than the title would suggest, it is owing to all the additions and deletions we have made to it over the centuries. To put back in what we've left out and to take out what we've put in is going to require some serious thought and discernment. Not an easy task but a necessary one and a rewarding one. Read this book. Re-read this book. Argue this book. Debate this book. In God's providence, it could very well do for the Church in this generation what Luther's work did for the Church in his.

Michael Fridgen is an avid traveler and theme park aficionado. He has visited theme parks around the world, and Dollywood remains a favorite. In the spirit of Rick Steves’s popular travel guides, he wrote Dollywood and Beyond! A Theme Park Lover's Guide to help other travelers get the most out of their Dollywood vacations.

Fridgen has degrees from the University of Minnesota and Hamline University. He’s written several works of fiction, including one that was a finalist for the Minnesota Book Award in 2013. Dollywood and Beyond! is his first work of nonfiction.

He currently lives in Minneapolis, but he has visited all fifty states.

Fantastic resouce guide to Dollywood and the surrounding area!

What a great find. This is the first book about Dollywood - and it is fantastic. There are many books about Disney World, but if you want a travel guide to Dollywood you were out of luck.
This book nicely summarizes how to plan a trip to Dollywood and Splash County. Mr. Fridgen provides a summary of pricing options, how to get there, and a detailed description of every food, ride and activity within the park.
This book will be great for anyone planning a first trip to Dollywood, or going for the 100th time. I have been there 5 times before and learned many new things. I can't wait to go again and bring this book with me.
There are also sections on the surrounding towns and Smoky Mountains for those times you want to escape the park and explore elsewhere.

I was able to receive a copy of the 2016 Dollywood and Beyond travel guide and was very happy to see how up-to-date all the information is! We are planning a December trip to Dollywood and are staying at the new Dreammore Resort. There is a great section telling you all about the hotel which just opened up a few months ago.
All the latest updates from Dollywood are listed as well including the newest roller coaster Lightning Rod!
Theme parks change so rapidly some times, it is great to see a book that keeps up with all the changes in this beautiful area of the country. The maps were extremely helpful as well as description of every ride and tips for navigating the park and its admission policies. We also love the descriptions of the surrounding area outside the park as well. We are also planning a family trip next year and I am thinking at getting a few copies for Christmas gifts this year so they can be excited and ready for the trip!

Looking for unique locations to visit and things to do in the Magic City? As a Miami native, I can say this list is spot-on. I've bought this book as a gift for coworkers who have recently relocated to the city, and they loved it. There are even good ideas for locals in here.

The authors highlight the best attractions in Miami, which include airboat rides, where you might catch a glimpse of a hungry alligator. They also showcase the beauty of the city, by listing the most tropical places. My favorite spot is the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. The book truly gives you the inside track to the very best spots to visit in South Florida. The authors even give the reader tips into places most tourist are unfamiliar with, like the Bakehouse Artist Complex. It's an amazing facility filled with dozens of artist studios in Wynnwood's Art District. My husband is a resident artist at the Bakehouse.
