A fine reprint of a fascinating guide to the Holy Land

This is primarily a guide to the sites in the Bible, primarily based on the Bible, supplemented by acute personal observation of modern circumstances. Thus the preface begins: "The Bible is the best Handbook for Palestine; the present work is only intended to be a companion to it." Since the text is available digitally on the Internet, you can decide for yourself if it's the book for you. If nothing else, I found it a fascinating view of a very different age, one when travelers had to hire camels for themselves and their servants, inspecting the beasts personally to ensure they were sound and strong.
Note that this reprint contains just part 1 of the guide (through page 290, not 360 as the Amazon description states). It covers the Sinai, Petra, Jerusalem (about 116 pages), and southern Palestine.
The reprint is very well done. The book appears to be larger than the original, probably 2-4 inches taller and 2-3 inches wider. As a result, the print is slightly fuzzy, but it's dark and always entirely readable. All pages are present. The large regional maps that came in the pockets of the original are not present but the four small plans in the text are. The binding is sewn rather than glued so it should hold up very well, but the pages look as if they might pull away from the cover with time.
