Not a "large print" Bible

I'm glad I only bought one of these. It was a disappointment when I got it and discovered that it had only slightly larger print than my standard Bible at home. I was hoping these could be used to hand out at our local veteran's home to elderly people. Although I will give it to someone who needs a Bible, it will not be given to someone who needs a "large print" Bible. In doing some further reading on this subject, it appears that there are no established standards for "large" or "giant" print Bibles. And it isn't just print size that makes the print appear large, it's also the type of font and spacing between letters and words that make print seem larger and easier to read. However, this Bible did not use any of those techniques to make it easier to read. It should not be labeled "large" print.

I have a small publishing company and have been writing and publishing since the year 2000, after stepping away from security operations and training; an industry I was in for almost twenty years previously. I am a genre best-selling author of five non-fiction true crime books, as well as a large number of Kindle books on a range of topics and subjects. Flavorful Writing!

As a resident in Bahrain, this beautifully stringed collection of short stories and poems are a glimmering necklace of pearls, a glorious testament to this culturally-rich island. All the works explore Bahrain in its uniqueness and flavor, from the epic of Gilgamesh to pearl-diving folklore to the experience of the immigrant family and their expectations. This book is full of deep impressions and reflections of what it is like to live in this ancient desert Island in the Gulf. The contributors being of various ages and nationalities have made navigating this country's past, present and future an exhilarating experience to indulge in. The prose and poetry are as exquisite as the contributors behind them. I highly recommend this book to all who have heard of this island, or just a little curious to find out what it's all about!

what an awesome book...good news for some and sad news for others

For close to twenty years I have been perusing my calling as a prophet of the Lord. I devour many books on the prophetic and they all have their place in my growth and maturity, but this book I feel is very healthy and useful for people who feel they are called to the office of prophet. So many young and inexperienced prophets have no idea of what a New Covenant prophet actually looks like and this lack of knowledge and understanding can wreak so much havoc on people, churches and countries.

Kris, through humility in using his own story, and by proper use of scripture not only shows what a New covenant prophet is, but does it in such an easy to understand way in conversational English.

Kris goes on to speak about 6 types of prophets that influence nations and from these perhaps you can see where you fit, if at all.

He goes on to give some invaluable insight and tips how to conduct yourself when meeting leaders and people in authority.

It is well worth thle purchase price and is very very awesome.

Start at Chapter 5

This book was not what I expected. Vallotton spends the most emphasis making a stark juxtaposition between the Old and New Testaments, and OT and NT prophetic attitudes. I do not agree with his theology on this, even though I do come to his same conclusion that prophecy must highlight and reflect God's love in a beneficial and uplifting manner.

I prefer to focus on the unity and continuity of the Scriptures, and think it would be helpful for believers to recognize and embrace the abundant love, grace, and goodness of God even before Jesus enters the scene in human form. I felt like Vallotton was reacting to the modern "judgment prophets," which he reveals a personal bias against, rather than giving a thorough exegesis. He seems to resist drawing the connection between God's forever goodness in order to avoid embracing the continuity of judgment and justice into the contemporary realm. I would argue that we just need to define and understand judgment in a healthy way, recognizing that this part of God's nature has always stemmed from His great love for the whole world.

Once Vallotton really settles into his message regarding the role of the modern prophet, his teaching is really excellent: encouraging, thought-provoking, inspiring, and helpful. As always (I have read a handful of his books), his personal stories and analogies are insightful and engaging.

The book becomes stronger as it goes along, and I especially loved his commentary on Joseph and Daniel toward the end. He describes the interesting dynamic these men had of being God's prophets in the midst of pagan nations, and what it looks like to bless and honor pagan leadership, thus earning a voice and attention.

I also really liked his list of six prophetic models based on the OT prophets (e.g. prophets who served leaders regarding governance, prophets who served leaders regarding only their personal lives, prophets who led countries themselves, and so forth). He wrote only briefly on this, but I think it could be a work in itself.

I greatly appreciated the way in which he shares so candidly from his own experiences, such as when he shares about the time he was so uncertain about the prophetic word he shared to the pastoral staff at Bethel that he spent the service lying on the floor with his head under a chair! His transparent honesty about his own past struggles are very refreshing, and provide an environment where anyone seeking to walk in the prophetic gift can embrace the calling with the recognition that mistakes may be made along the way, but that God is bigger than those mistakes. Kris offers a lot of wisdom, and there are definitely things in this book that will challenge your way of thinking. Whether you agree with all that he offers or not, you will walk away with a greater understanding of the prophetic voice needed in our churches today, one that should be focused on encouraging and raising up people to realize their God-given calling, and not focus on a message of judgement and wrath (as has so often been the case with prophetic ministries).

Whether you are someone wanting a solid understanding of the gift of prophecy or are seeking to deepen their gifting, "School of the Prophets" is a worthwhile read. I award it a solid rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

American writer, educator, theologian, and feminist pioneer EMMA CURTIS HOPKINS (1849-1925) may well be the most important woman in the history of religion in the United States. This book I found so meaningful, I will purchase more of Emma Hopkins books!

Since I am a new "student" of Christian Science, this book has been very helpful in several ways:

1 I have learned by reading this book, how to pray more effectively and mindfully.

2 I like the way Ms Hopkins places in all caps GOOD, MIND as they refer to God's goodness and Mind. When she places good or mind in lower case. she means human mind or human good.

3 Although this book was written many tears ago, I found it very easy to understand as I read jt with both my mind with my soul!

4 I found this book so meaningful, I will be purchasing more eBooks (Kindle) by Emma Hopkins.

This classic New Thought book is one I return to periodically. I am happy to be able to have it on my Kindle so that Emma can travel with me in my large and light-weight library. She was the teacher of the 3 main founders of the New Thought groups back in the late 1800's up until the 1920's.She was an amazing woman, ahead of her time. What a powerful and clear lady she was.

A fast and fun read written in a delightfully warm and pleasant voice. The book is structured into 15 chapters with each chapter addressing a common -- if sometimes sensitive -- question that comes up when considering a move to Costa Rica with small kids. These questions are all addressed in the authors own point of view, and then she includes well considered quotes from other families who have made the move. I have lived in Costa Rica for several years, but I still learned a lot from this book and will be looking back on it frequently for a different perspective on the questions that come up living abroad with kids.

Well worth the price

Interesting book and good information about Costa Rica. Didn't display correctly on my regular Kindle reader, so I read it with Google. Will not be NY Times best seller, but it was well worth the .99 paid. The author Emily Shea has an excellent blog online. Book is a nice companion to her blog.

Terrific tips for travelers to Portugal and new expats too!

I'm a relatively new reader and subscriber to Julie's blog, "Julie Dawn Fox in Portugal" and downloaded this book when I began planning some travel and a stay of several weeks in Portugal. The book is well organized into short, succinct chapters in an easy-to-read conversational style and delivers excellent "How to" info including my favorite, getting the most value for my money. One tip we put into use immediately was saving money on train tickets for my husband who is 65 years old and, since we're traveling quite frequently up and down the coast exploring different cities, the savings have added up. She has also included several websites for researching good value accommodations as well as cost savings in transport by bus, metro and train. I highly recommend reading this book while planning your travel in Portugal and I plan to use it in the future for longer stays to check out other discounts and vouchers. Terrific tips!

Well Written Cost Saving Guide for First Time Visitors

This short but well written account covers all significant opportunities to minimise cost when visiting Portugal... an already affordable and seductive country. It offers cost effective guidance to first-time budget conscious visitors, and includes useful links to selected other resources. The use of vouchers to minimise costs was a welcome surprise to me, and as a frequent visitor to Lisbon, I can add little to this useful guide. Except perhaps for budget travellers, like myself, to make good use of supermarkets like Pingo Doce, and others, to buy food and wine at low cost for consumption in your room and from your day sack. But as Julie says in Money Saving Tips... the set menus for about 7-8 Euros are excellent value, and in my view are best included in every daily budget.

Hello Portugal!

We downloaded this very handy guide. It is full of excellent travel trips and we have read it all in preparation for our trip to Portugal in a few months. The information is clear and easily read and set out in a very user friendly way. Some guides seem to be focused on the younger generation but this one is full of genuine handy hints and 'how to' information. It is really suitable for us (in our 60's) but would be just as suitable for any age group who want actual information, not just where the best bars are! We love it!
