About the Author
Born in London in 1962, educated a Tylney Hall Boarding school in Hampshire Antiques and fine arts dealer & furniture restoration for 30 years, self-taught artist exhibited at Beecroft art gallery in Southend picking up a Beecroft award for work displayed.
Entered the world of miniature making in the late 1990's becoming one of the only artists in the world to specialise in Pietra Dura, a 17th century art working in marble and semi-precious stones, with work displayed in museums around the world. Karl is now semi-retired living with his partner of 35 years.

I Wish All Guide Books Were Like This

I get a bit bored with the likes of Lonely Planet, Rough Guide etc. as they often seem to me to be deficient when you are visiting an area and you want specific information on what to do and where to go. Generally they are good at highlighting the key tourist attractions, but then you get mired down with lots of stuff that you are not looking for and do not need such as details of the hotels they have chosen, often, it seems, on an arbitrary basis. Doesn’t everyone get this stuff off Tripadvisor anyway these days?
Hence this book came like a breath of fresh air and is exactly what a guide book for a limited area as opposed to a country guide should look like. The majority of the book is devoted to a detailed description of the many local villages and hamlets in the area which is on far too micro a scale for it to be included in the major guide books put out by the big companies, but is just what the tourist travelling around an area is going to need. Lots of detailed information here on the history of the location, what to see in each place, where you will find the best beaches and where to eat. There is even the occasional useful snippet such as where you can get free wifi.
Other contents include key facts about the area, markets, food and drink, useful phrases etc.
We spend a lot of time in Murcia and I really wish this sort of guide book was available for that area. If you are travelling to the Algarve and plan to travel around the area, you will find this guide quite invaluable and it is certainly a worthwhile investment.

Puts our old guide books to shame

Covers so much more than other travel guides my wife and I have purchased in the past.Definitely going to be exploring many of the places listed. At last a guide that explains the Masculine and feminine in the phrases,photo's slightly small but all are relevant to each town or village. After purchasing the kindle we feel it would be value purchasing the book as my wife prefers a book in her hand.

Would be helpful to have maps to visualize the town's and parishes describe in the book. Would be helpful to name more restaurants and give addresses.
