Superficial

A superficial book. It's written on about a fourth grade level and is occasionally snarky: "You can find some more amazing mosaics in the small chapel of bishop Zeno. These are the most beautiful Byzantine mosaics in Rome. You can see a lot of figures depicted." On the Via della Conciliazione: "On both sides of the street you can see many obelisks. The Romans call these jokingly suppositories."
There are no maps to physically locate the churches in the city. The map of the Vatican is the only one that contains some of the streets around it, however the print is so small and faint as to be unreadable without a magnifying glass.
All images are black and white and the print of the images is poor.
This book will be virtually useless on our tour of Roman churches.

Fantastic guide to Rome's churches!

Fantastic book! It is well illustrated so that finding things inside churches is a snap. As I read the book I felt that I was already visiting the churches with things being so clearly described. It is perfect to take to Rome and deepen greatly the enjoyment of visits to all the churches that are described within. It is light weight so it is easy to carry around. It is full of interesting insights. I am very glad I bought this book and highly recommend it to anyone planning to visit churches in Rome.
